Stromae SXSW 2015: Official Appearance Announced
Stromae will perform live on NPR’s SXSW Music Showcase on March 18. The show will be at Stubb’s Bar-B-Q and is an official event of the South by Southwest (SXSW) Festival. Stromae will take the stage at 11:00 p.m., just before headliners TV on the Radio.
NPR confesses that they’re “already falling for” the Belgian musician, who is still unknown to many Americans. NPR is certainly doing their part to change Stromae’s unfamiliarity in the United States: they featured Stromae in no less than 7 stories last year, and included Stromae’s album Racine Carrée on their list of their 50 favorite albums of 2014.
NPR’s coverage of SXSW has already begun at npr.org/sxsw and on radio stations across the country.

Stromae will also perform at The Spotify House in Austin on March 15.
If you can’t make it to the NPR showcase in person, check back here in the days following the concert. We’ll update this article with links to audio and video recordings of the show.
UPDATE March 19: NPR has promised to post video of the concert in the next few days, but in the meantime, here’s their post-show report from the venue. Reporter Stephen Thompson calls “Papaoutai” “the festival’s most massive set-closer yet.” Be sure to listen to the audio file at the top of the page to hear the NPR journalists, almost at a loss for words, rushing to their praises of Stromae. He wasn’t the headliner of the evening, but they’re tripping over themselves to get the superlatives out: comparisons to Elvis, Sinatra, James Brown, even Barack Obama in 2008. “By the end, he’s Michael Jackson, I mean, the moves the guy had were just incredible. Just, what a performer. Just, Stromae. You’re going to keep hearing this name.”
UPDATE March 25: Here’s the link to a 14-minute video of “Alors on Danse” and “Papaoutai” from Stromae’s set for the NPR Showcase, along with Stephen Thompson’s review of the show. NPR photographer Adam Kissick also created a great GIF from the show, as well as a few photos of the venue and Stromae’s performance.
